Here is a small list of signs or symptoms that are present every day for at least 2 weeks:

Fatigue or loss of energy almost every day

​Feelings of worthlessness or guilt almost every day

Impaired concentration, indecisiveness

Insomnia or hypersomnia (excessive sleeping) almost every day

Restlessness or feeling slowed down

Recurring thoughts of death or suicide

Markedly diminished interest or pleasure in almost all activities nearly everyday

Significant weight loss or gain of 5% of body weight in a month

A few types of depression are:

Major depression has severe symptoms that interfere with your ability to work, sleep, study, or enjoy life, can occur once in a   

                                 lifetime, but more often has several episodes.

Peristent depressive disorder has moods that lasts for at least 2 years.

Postpartum depression is more serious than the "baby blues" women experience after giving birth.

Seasonal affective disorder is caused by the onset of depression during the winter months when there is less

                          natural sunlight and usually lifts during spring or summer.
